PREVIOUSLY:
– A violent confrontation between Midway and Victoria caused the eventual downfall of both towns, and included many deaths, including the demise of Aimi, Blaine, and Bobby.
– The survivors were split in two. Peter, Shiro, Jai, Georgie, Henry, Lorna, Bernadette, Beatrice, Donna, Drew, Luke, Rachel, and Elaine are at Noah Ashby’s underground facility, with Alexis as their prisoner.
– Alexis holds power in her hands as she and she alone knows the location of an extraction point where Noah’s people, and henceforth the rest of the group, are supposed to be taken to somewhere safe by a mysterious, currently unknown community Noah is associated with.
– The other survivors who made it out of the bloody battle in Victoria: Angie, Javier, Charlotte, Shiloh, Lydia-Jean, Diego, and Zahra and baby Stephen (who is immune, remember?) are indeed alive, but their current whereabouts are unknown.
Jonah: Daddy?
Caleb: Jonah? What’s the matter? Is Mummy OK?
Jonah: Sleeping.
Caleb: Go back to bed, bud.
Jonah: Want Ashlyn.
Caleb: She’ll be back soon. Now go on. Scoot.
Caleb: And what time do you call this?
Ashlyn: Dad…
Caleb: You know how worried I’ve been!?
Ashlyn: It’s happening.
Caleb: It wasn’t supposed to be for another couple of days!
Ashlyn: An explosion diverted it. Paula and Trent had to leave straight away or we would’ve missed our window.
Ashlyn: You sure Jonah will be OK with Mum?
Caleb: I crushed a pill in her drink. She’s not getting up until I wake her.
Caleb: If we’re seen out after curfew…
Ashlyn: Rhea’s on watch. We’re cool.
Wade: Nice of ya’ll to turn up.
Caleb: Well? Is Ashlyn right?
Ashlyn: More often than not.
Wade: Don’t know about that. This time, at least.
Caleb: How long we got?
Wade: Depends. If we leave this second…
Caleb: We can’t.
Wade: So, by the time you get your brood and belongings together? Humble Wade’s best estimate?
Caleb: Four/five hours?
Wade: More like forty-five minutes.
Wade: And that’s best case scenario. So, I suggest you stick up a rocket up your ass.
Wade: I’m going! With or without you! I’m serious!
Caleb: We believe you!
Ashlyn: Can we do this?
Caleb: We stay, we die.
Ashlyn: We can ride it out?
Caleb: With your mother? Get them up and ready. I’ll get Rhea.
Ashlyn: She can handle herself.
Caleb: She’s insurance. Go!
Caleb: Rhea!
Rhea: Shh! You trying to wake Graham from hibernation!?
Caleb: It’s time.
Rhea: I’m aware.
Caleb: Then why aren’t you getting ready!?
Rhea: Because we’re too late.
Rhea: So much for the early warning, huh?
Rhea: Nobody’s up. And the dead are far enough away that they can’t be heard.
Rhea: So, if all goes well, everyone will stay sleeping in their beds and by the time they realise what’s coming, we’ll be long gone.
Caleb: What about the others? The triplets? Clarity and Hank?
Wade: Screw ‘em.
Caleb: They were part of this! What sort of people would we be if we took off without them!?
Wade: Desperate sons-of-bitches!
Ashlyn: I can wake them. Quietly.
Wade: No.
Ashlyn: The hell not!?
Wade: Too close to Graham’s quarters. We’re not risking it.
Caleb: And it’s down to you to decide that?
Wade: You want your family to make it out? Because you’re sure as shit not acting like it.
Caleb: Leaving them here… with Graham… Ajax… they’ll be killed even if they survive the horde!
Ashlyn: And what about Trent and Paula!?
Wade: Now, if there’s anyone who can go and fuck themselves, it’s those two assholes.
Ashlyn: Wade!
Wade: They’re the ones who screwed this whole thing up!
Caleb: They’re good people.
Wade: Who are more than likely dead now anyways. Hell, they’re probably back on their feet marching towards this place looking for supper! And I don’t know ‘bout you, but I don’t feel like being tonight’s special.
Rhea: He’s right.
Caleb: You support this!?
Rhea: I support whatever option gets me out alive. I don’t like it. And I know I’ll have many restless nights courtesy of the guilt. But sometimes the rational way is also the selfish one. I wanna live. And I know you want the same for you and your family, Caleb.
Wade: I think we’ve wasted enough time. Let’s skedaddle.
Kelsey: Caleb? What’s going on?
Caleb: Just going for a walk.
Kelsey: I wanna go back to bed…
Caleb: Just stay quiet. We’re gonna get a vehicle and then you can go to sleep.
Rhea: Holden, I’m supposed to be on-watch.
Holden: Yeah, well, I got up to use the john and you weren’t here. Now, what’s the hell’s going on?
Rhea: Getting these guys ready to go on a run.
Holden: First I’ve heard. Your brother didn’t mention…
Rhea: I ran it past Graham. Ajax doesn’t know.
Rhea: You think I’m lying?
Holden: I’m just curious as to what possible reason you’d have for going on a run with a baby and a crazy lady?
Ashlyn: Shut the fuck up!
Caleb: Ashlyn…
Holden: You gonna use them as a distraction in case you get overrun? Makes sense, I suppose. Dispense of the weak so the strong can survive, right?
Ashlyn: Say that again.
Holden: Raising a gun at one of Ajax’s boys has gotten many people killed, kid. Age is no excuse. You’ll suffer the same fate.
Rhea: Everybody calm down! They came to say their goodbyes, that’s all!
Caleb: Ashlyn, lower the gun.
Holden: I’m a reasonable man. I’ll forget all about this if you come back to my room and give me just thirty minutes of your time. Now, I know the deal your Daddy worked out with Graham means you’re exempt from such responsibilities, but given the offence committed…
Ashlyn: I’d rather die!
Holden: Well, like I said, that is an option.
Holden: What’s the matter, Abbott? Cat got your tongue?
Wade: Die quietly, please. Attaboy.
Wade: A man threatens to rape your daughter and you do nothing?
Wade: Piece of advice…
Caleb: Not interested.
Wade: You want your brood to make it? Best make a start killing. Or preparing to do so should the opportunity present itself. Now let’s get the fuck out of here.
Rhea: Shit!
Caleb: Trent… Paula…
Wade: What did I tell ya?
Wade: No guns, assholes! Take out the ones closest and when I make a break for it, follow my lead!
Caleb: Kelsey, no! Come back!
Ashlyn: So much for that!
Wade: This fucker’s blown! We’re not gonna get far enough away before Graham’s boys wake up! Let’s get back inside, play ignorant, and wait for a window!
Ajax: Oh, now surely my tired eyes are deceiving me?
Ajax: We couldn’t possibly have deserters on our hands here?
Rhea: I think it’s more of a case of rats fleeing the sinking ship.
Ajax: I wasn’t talking to you.
Rhea: I’m part of this.
Ajax: And I won’t forget it. Make yourself scarce and we’ll talk about this later.
Rhea: I’m done, Ajax. With you. With this place. All of it.
Ajax: And what would daddy dearest say if he heard you say that?
Rhea: He’s not here. And if he was, he’d be disgusted with you!
Ajax: The golden boy!? The apple of his eye!? Oh, you know that’s not true, Rhea!
Ajax: Now, you can step aside, or I’ll get my boys to drag you away. Go with the easy option and don’t make a scene. I think you’ve embarrassed me enough.
Rhea: If you want to kill my friends, you have to kill me, too.
Ajax: I’m not gonna kill you. As much as you might tempt me on occasion. But I am going to kill your friends. Rules are rules, after all! And what’s the point of rules if they’re not enforced?
Caleb: Shit.
Ajax: Graham.
Graham: Deserters?
Ajax: Uh-huh.
Graham: Execution?
Ajax: What we do, right?
Graham: No point with them. No threat.
Graham: And he’s a good mechanic.
Wade: You’re mistaking for me a coward. I don’t want no special treatment.
Ajax: Boyd, Turner…
Ajax: Graham’s given you a lifeline, Wade. Don’t be foolish. Accept it. And be grateful. Boyd, stick a hood over Abbott and his daughter and take them to the stands. Raymond, ring the bell and rouse the townsfolk. We’ve got ourselves a middle of the night execution extravaganza and I’m sure they won’t want to miss it!
Rhea: Ajax, please! Don’t do this!
Ashlyn: No!
Kelsey: Caleb, what’s happening!?
Caleb: Look after them, Wade! Please!
Ashlyn: Get off me! Hey!
Boyd: Don’t struggle, girl! Make this easier!
Boyd: Walk! Both of you!
Boyd: Up three steps. C’mon!
Boyd: Now you, Abbott.
Boyd: On your knees!
Ashlyn: Dad?
Caleb: I’m here, sweetheart.
Ashlyn: The bell…
Caleb: Just stay calm, OK? We’ll get out of this. I know we will.
Ajax: That’s it, everyone! Gather round!
Ashlyn: Oh, God.
Ajax: I know you’re all unhappy to be woken at this hour and for that, we can only apologise. But these two are responsible. For you see, they took it among themselves to try and escape. And what are the rules on that?
Nobody leaves without permission.
Ajax: Well remembered!
Ajax: Graham gave us this place. The motel was his before this mess started. Could’ve kept it for himself and his nearest and dearest, but no. He let you all in! And what are you?
Grateful.
Ajax: And why wouldn’t you be?
Ajax: All Graham asked in return was that you follow his rules. That’s about right, isn’t it, Graham?
Graham: Mhm.
Ajax: So when people show Graham such blatant disrespect and ungratefulness, it can only be taken as an insult of the highest degree. And that won’t do, ladies and gents, boys and girls. That won’t do at all.
Ajax: Here’s a reminder of what happens to those who stray down the perilous path of no return.
Ashlyn: Daddy…
Caleb: Close your eyes, baby.
Caleb: Think of home.
THE DEAD!
Ajax: What!?
RUN!
Ajax: Now hold on!
Raymond: How did they get in!?
THERE’S HUNDREDS OF THEM!
Ashlyn: Dad, what do we do!?
Ashlyn: Dad? What’s happening!?
Ashlyn: Have they left us!?
Ashlyn: They’re getting closer! I can hear them!
Caleb: We’ve gotta make a break for it. We head for the stairs back up to the motel.
Ashlyn: How are we supposed to make it when we can’t see!?
Caleb: We’ve been here for months, honey! We know this place! We’re on the stage… the motel is right in front of us… we can do it!
Ashlyn: WHO IS THAT!? GET OFF ME!
Caleb: ASHLYN!?
OW! I’m trying to help! Hold your fucking horses!
Caleb: Ruth!?
Ruth: Oh, you remember who I am now? Wasn’t sure if you did considering you were leaving without us!?
Ashlyn: We didn’t have a choice!
Caleb: It went wrong.
Ruth: And what!? We were expendable!?
Ashlyn: It wasn’t like that.
Ruth: Sure as hell looks like it.
Ruth: Come on. We’re going our own way.
Dougie: Ruth…
Alyssa: Surely it makes sense to stay together?
Ruth: Tell that to them!
Alyssa: But…
Ruth: Now!
Ashlyn: Ruth! Wait!
Caleb: Let her go! We gotta find the others!
Caleb: Rhea!?
Rhea: Duck!
Ashlyn: Over our heads!?
Rhea: You’re alive, aren’t you?
Caleb: Where’s Kelsey and Jonah!?
Rhea: Wade got them out!
Caleb: And what are you doing!?
Rhea: The idea was to let the dead in and save you assholes. The plight I got myself into wasn’t planned.
Wade: The hell’s wrong with you, Boyd!?
Boyd: Get back inside!
Wade: It’s over!
Kelsey: Please… get him to stop!
Wade: Hold your horses, Kelsey. I’ve got this.
Wade: Lower the gun!
Boyd: And let you go!?
Wade: What are you not understanding, you stupid son-of-a-bitch!? We’ve not going back! And neither are you! This place is done!
Kelsey: I’m getting out of here!
Boyd: Don’t move, lady!
Kelsey: (Screams).
Wade: Don’t shoot! She’s not well!
Boyd: I SAID DON’T MOVE!
Caleb: Ashlyn?
Ashlyn: I’m fine, Dad. I had no choice.
Wade: At least your girl has the stomach for it.
Kelsey: Caleb!?
Caleb: It’s me, honey. Come on back.
Kelsey: What’s wrong with people!? Why are they walking so weird? Are they sick?
Caleb: Yeah. They are. I’ll explain later.
Wade: Can we haul ass?
Rhea: It’s so fucking cold.
Wade: No lighting the fireplace. We’d be morons to even risk bringing attention to ourselves right now.
Rhea: You don’t need to tell me again, Wade. I was just saying.
Wade: They asleep?
Rhea: Think so.
Wade: I feel for the guy. He has no idea what he’s got ahead of him. Keeping those kids and Kelsey safe in the midst of all this? It’ll be a miracle if they’re still alive this time tomorrow.
Rhea: Ashlyn can handle herself. And Jonah’s a good kid. Keeps quiet if we need him to.
Wade: Yeah, but that wife of his–
Caleb: What about her, Wade?
Wade: Didn’t mean nothin’ by it.
Caleb: Really? Because from where I was standing, it sure seems like you did.
Rhea: He’s just worried about how you’re going to cope, Caleb. That’s all.
Caleb: That’s my problem.
Wade: I can’t emphasize with a brother now?
Caleb: I don’t need it. I need you to mind your own business.
Wade: I’m not the enemy here.
Caleb: I appreciate your concern, but Kelsey is mine to worry about. Nobody else’s. If you wanna go your own way, no hard feelings.
Rhea: We never said that.
Wade: Stop being so damn sensitive and sit your ass down. Uncle Wade’s made tea.
Caleb: I’m sorry.
Rhea: You don’t have to be.
Caleb: I’m worried, too. Of course I am.
Caleb: When she was diagnosed I thought it was the worst thing that ever could have happened. Six months later, I’m sitting on my porch drinking a beer and my neighbour walks out of her house and starts eating her dog.
Wade: Korean, was she?
Rhea: Jesus, Wade.
Wade: Just trying to lighten the mood!
Rhea: We’ll pitch in. Help with her.
Caleb: You don’t have to.
Rhea: We want to.
Wade: I wouldn’t go that far. But yeah. We’re obliged.
Caleb: You are?
Wade: We’re a collective, ain’t we? Gotta stick together. ‘specially after what we’ve just left behind. They’re still out there.
Rhea: Ajax won’t die.
Wade: You want him to?
Rhea: I’m indifferent.
Wade: You know I’m gonna take the shot if I get it, right?
Rhea: We’ve spoke about this. My position hasn’t changed.
Wade: Savage.
Rhea: There’s always been something wrong with him. Even when we were little he took joy out of killing bugs… picking on younger children… he’s never been right.
Wade: I used to kick the shit out of kids like that.
Rhea: Me, too.
Rhea: My father’s oblivious. He always put it down to a phase or shrugged his shoulders and said “boys-will-be-boys”. It’s deeper than that with Ajax. I realised that a long time ago.
Caleb: He was built for this world.
Rhea: So it would seem.
Wade: Well, we can hope Graham’s met his maker. Wouldn’t put great odds on that fat son-of-a-bitch being able to run far. Unless Denny’s made a comeback, that is.
Rhea: They’re looking for us.
Caleb: Then we need to get as far away as possible.
Wade: Iowa?
Rhea: What the fuck’s in Iowa?
Wade: Nothing. And in case you ain’t noticed, that’s what I’m going for.
Caleb: I don’t care where we go, as long as it’s away from here.
Wade: You know where your old man’s hiding out, kid?
Rhea: No.
Wade: Honestly?
Rhea: Would Ajax and I have stayed at the motel for so long if we did!?
Wade: Fair point.
Wade: I know we’re the only ones who know about this place, but I’d feel comfortable if we got our sweet behinds outta here pronto. Five hours. No more.
Rhea: You think the others will talk?
Caleb: They wouldn’t.
Wade: Clarity sure as shit would. That woman would kick a three-legged-puppy under a steamroller if it would better her.
Rhea: Shouldn’t we wait a bit longer? See if they turn up?
Wade: They’ve got time. If they don’t get here before sunrise, they’ll have to go their own way.
Wade: Who’s on watch?
Rhea: You. I’m exhausted.
Wade: You got two hours.
Rhea: Three.
Wade: Two-and-a-half.
Rhea: Two-and-three-quarters.
Wade: Jesus Christ. Fine.
Wade: I’m an insensitive son-of-a-bitch sometimes. No filter.
Caleb: We’re good.
Wade: I’ll be outside freezing my cojones off. Holler if you need me.
Dad… Dad?
Caleb: What is it?
Ashlyn: We’re heading out.
Caleb: Hear anything during the night?
Wade: Gunshots. Some vehicles. Nowhere close to us, though.
Ashlyn: We went under the radar?
Wade: Wouldn’t be breathing if we didn’t.
Kelsey: Who are we hiding from?
Caleb: Nobody, honey. Do you want any water?
Kelsey: Are we going on a picnic?
Wade: I wish. I’d kill all of you right here on the spot if it would get me a baloney sandwich.
Caleb: He’s kidding.
Wade: Hm.
Later:
Ashlyn: You all right, little man?
Jonah: Cold.
Caleb: I know, buddy. Just hang in there.
Caleb: We gonna stop and get some shelter soon?
Wade: Nothin’ suitable yet.
Caleb: What was wrong with the store we passed a mile back?
Wade: Stores attract attention. We need to lie-low at a place nobody’s gonna bother ransacking.
Ashlyn: Like a library?
Wade: Something like that.
Caleb: You’re quiet.
Rhea: Because it’s quiet.
Wade: Meaning?
Rhea: There were close to a hundred people at the motel. All running frantically in different directions. We’ve not come across anyone.
Ashlyn: They might have died?
Wade: As wonderfully convenient as that would be, I wouldn’t bet on it. Rhea’s right. Something’s up.
Wade: Can’t believe it’s only occurring to me now, but what if Graham had a back-up? Somewhere secret he could move everyone to if the motel was lost?
Rhea: Never heard talk of something like that.
Wade: Hence the secret part, kid. Your crazy-ass brother might not have known.
Wade: This’ll do.
Wade: Campsite outside. A group lived here before.
Rhea: Doesn’t look like it’s been used in months.
Wade: Suits us just fine, then.
Caleb: I’ll go on watch.
Rhea: I don’t mind?
Caleb: It’s my turn.
Wade: Don’t worry. Got my eye on them.
Caleb: That’s reassuring.
Ashlyn: Dad?
Caleb: Honey? You should be sleeping.
Ashlyn: Can’t.
Caleb: Your mother and brother OK?
Ashlyn: Mm. As good as they can be anyway.
Caleb: What is it?
Ashlyn: How are we gonna do this, Dad?
Caleb: We? It’s not your responsibility. It’s mine and mine alone. I don’t want you worrying about this, OK?
Ashlyn: It’d be bad enough if it was just Ajax after us. But Graham’s probably out there. And the dead. There’s so many of them now.
Caleb: What did I just say? I’ll handle this. You don’t have to worry.
Ashlyn: Don’t I? Jonah’s so little, Dad. So helpless. And mum… she’s probably more so.
Caleb: What do you suggest!?
Ashlyn: I.. I don’t even want to say it.
Caleb: Then don’t.
Ashlyn: Dad…
Ashlyn: We could keep Jonah safe, OK? We could. We can.
Ashlyn: We can raise him right. Make sure he knows what to do to survive. He’s a smart boy. He’ll pick it up quick. But Mum? She’s getting worse by the day.
Caleb: I can handle it.
Ashlyn: She runs off at the first sign of those things! Normally with Jonah in her arms! What happens when she doesn’t come back?
Caleb: Stop.
Ashlyn: What happens when she runs straight into them? And we have to listen to their screams? Watch them torn to shreds?
Caleb: Enough!
Ashlyn: I’m not trying to upset you.
Caleb: Could’ve fooled me.
Ashlyn: She doesn’t remember me. Hasn’t for a while.
Caleb: She’s still your mother.
Ashlyn: Is she? The woman I remember left us a long time ago.
Ashlyn: What happens when she doesn’t remember you anymore, Dad? How will we manage her, then?
Caleb: Are you seriously suggesting what I think you are!?
Ashlyn: It wouldn’t have to be us. Wade or Rhea… I’m sure… if we asked…
Caleb: This conversation is over. And it’s never to be brought up again.
Ashlyn: Dad…
Caleb: Go back.
Ashlyn: Dad…
Caleb: I love you, Ashlyn, but you’re pressing me!
Ashlyn: No! I think someone’s here!
Caleb: See anything?
Ashlyn: Either my eye’s playing tricks, or there’s someone behind that tree.
Caleb: Come out with your hands up.
Caleb: Clarity?
Clarity: Caleb, please. You’ve gotta help me.
Wade: I didn’t know your girl’s diabetic.
Clarity: We ran out of medicine a few days ago. I worked out a deal with Graham to get our hands on more…
Ashlyn: Oh, Clarity. You didn’t–?
Clarity: No. Too old. And Hope’s too fat. Their words.
Ashlyn: Assholes.
Clarity: We gave up family heirlooms. My mother’s pearl necklace. Hank’s watch his grandfather gave him. Not worth anything now, of course. But Graham got pleasure taking them from us. Anyway, we never got the medicine before everything went to hell.
Ashlyn: How long will she–?
Clarity: If she doesn’t get any medicine? Couple of days. She used to pass out if she forgot to take her medication just an hour or so before she meant to. It’s a miracle she’s lasted this long.
Clarity: I don’t know if I can do this. I don’t know where Hank is… we got separated when he fought off the dead so I could get Hope to the car.
Caleb: We’re here for you, Clarity. We’ll help.
Rhea: Clarity?
Wade: Hell have you been?
Rhea: Sleeping.
Caleb: We don’t have medicine, but what can we do to help in the meantime?
Clarity: She needs food.
Caleb: That we’ve got.
Wade: Rest up, shitheads. We’re outta here in four hours.
Caleb: The hell!?
Kelsey: What’s going on!?
Caleb: Everyone get down!
Rhea: No… no… no…
Clarity: Someone’s shooting through the windows!
Wade: Fuck!
Caleb: You OK!?
Wade: Barely got out of that one!
Ashlyn: Who is it!?
Ajax: That right there was a warning! You wanna walk away from all this? I’ll give you one chance. Walk outside, hand your weapons over, and we’ll talk! You’ve got two minutes!
Wade: And why don’t I give you a back-rub and wipe the sweat from under your balls while I’m at it!? Prick.
Ashlyn: How did they find us?
Wade: I have an idea.
Clarity: Wade!? What are you doing!?
Wade: Sorry, sweetheart. But there was something fucked up about how you turned up out of the blue earlier.
Clarity: You think I led them here!?
Wade: You’ve got motive. For all we know they’ve got Hank and the medicine you so desperately desire.
Hope: You’re wrong.
Wade: Yeah. I’m not. But thanks for your input, tubby.
Caleb: Wasn’t them, Wade.
Wade: Wha–!? Oh, come on!
Caleb: She missed everything when Clarity and Hope turned up because she was asleep? Through all that commotion? I don’t buy it.
Wade: Tell me he’s wrong, kid.
Rhea: I…
Wade: Fuck you!
Caleb: You led your brother here? So much for your indifference, huh?
Rhea: I made a deal with him. He’ll let us live.
Caleb: Bullshit.
Rhea: He was tracking us. This was just a matter of time.
Wade: You been fooling us since the start!?
Rhea: No!
Wade: How do you expect us to believe that!?
Wade: Fuck you!
Ashlyn: Wade, no!
Wade: What aren’t you getting!? She’s betrayed us!
Ashlyn: If we kill her, we’re dead! We might need her!
Ajax: Thirty seconds!
Rhea: AJAX, JUST WAIT!
Ajax: Done waiting, sis!
Wade: Everyone ready?
Clarity: Ready for what?
Wade: I ain’t surrendering. Not to that jackass.
Caleb: Me neither.
Wade: Kelsey, Jonah, and Hope need to go and take cover in the back room.
Ashlyn: I’ll guard them.
Hope: I want to help!
Wade: Sorry, sweetheart. You’re not strong enough. You’ll just get in the way. And don’t take this personally, but you’re one heck of a big target.
Hope: Asshole.
Clarity: I…
Wade: Not up for it, huh?
Clarity: I wanna stay with my daughter.
Wade: Then you go do that.
Wade: Waste of oxygen, that one.
Wade: What say you, traitor?
Rhea: I’m not gonna let them kill you.
Wade: Heh. Yeah. Sure.
Wade: I’m about to take on some trigger-happy fucktards with a turncoat and a pacifist. This is the reward I get from shunning my hillbilly roots and embracing a bunch of minorities.
Caleb: What’s the hold-up?
Wade: Your brother thought better of it?
Rhea: I somehow doubt that.
Hey! GET OFF!
Caleb: No!
Wade: The hell’s going on!?
Caleb: ASHLYN!?
Clarity: They knocked her out!
Caleb: Where’s Kelsey and Jonah!?
Hope: They took them!
Rhea: Ajax! Danny! Stop!
Rhea: I said stop!
Rhea: I MEAN IT!
Rhea: Ajax, please!
Wade: SHOOT HIM!
Ajax: I’ll be seeing you soon!
Wade: Why didn’t you shoot him!?
Rhea: I couldn’t, OK!? I’m sorry!
Caleb: Jonah!
Caleb: JONAH!
Kelsey: Caleb, what’s happening!?
Wade: We need to go after the son-of-bitch! Finish this for good!
Rhea: Guys, wait…
Wade: Unless you want a bullet in your head, you’ll stay out of our way!
Caleb: Are you OK!?
Kelsey: Who was that man!?
Caleb: He’s gone, sweetheart. C’mon. Let’s get you up.
Wade: Look alive, dickheads!
Caleb: Get Ashlyn and the others! We’ve gotta move!
Caleb: How’s the head?
Ashlyn: Sore. I’m sorry, Dad. I didn’t even see them come in… Ajax just whacked me…
Caleb: It’s not your fault.
Caleb: Rest while you can. Wade said there’s at least another three big groups of dead near here. Won’t be long before we’ve gotta move.
Ashlyn: Don’t hurt Rhea, Dad. And stop Wade if he tries.
Caleb: You know she betrayed us? That your brother’s with that psycho because of her?
Ashlyn: She might be end up being the only bargaining chip we have. Trust me, if anything happens to Jonah, Wade will have to beat me to her.
Caleb: Rest.
Caleb: Clarity?
Clarity: I’m sorry about your boy, Caleb.
Caleb: We’re getting him back.
Clarity: Of course.
Caleb: How’s Hope?
Clarity: She’s hanging in there. I’m glad she’s got time to sleep.
Wade: Sorry to take a runny-ass-dump all over that, but we’ve gotta move!
Rhea: This place looks stable!
Wade: No! We gotta keep fighting! Make our way through!
Caleb: There’s too many! Hope and Ashlyn won’t make it!
Rhea: It was a museum, for crying out loud! It’s not gonna be easy for them to get in!
Clarity: OK! Lead the way!
Wade: If this is a trap…
Rhea: I’m on your side!
Wade: Said Judas to Jesus!
Ashlyn: C’mon! Quick!
Rhea: It’s barricaded!
Wade: Keep pushing!
Ashlyn: It’s opening!
Hope: Thank God!
Wade: Get in!
Caleb: Get the door’s covered!
Clarity: Take a seat, sweetheart. You’re going to be all right.
Wade: If we stay quiet, they might get distracted and go elsewhere.
Ashlyn: And if they don’t?
Wade: Then I hope there’s another way out.
Ashlyn: And if there isn’t?
Wade: Then we feed Rhea to them and hope they’ll forget about us.
Rhea: Funny.
Wade: Wasn’t joking.
Ashlyn: Did you hear that?
Caleb: Hello? Someone there?
Caleb: Who are you!?
Wade: He asked you a question, sweetheart.
Alexis: I heard him fine.
Peter: Weapons on the ground. Hands in the air.
Peter: All of you.
Excellent return. The episode was based around a simple but effective plot that was tense and gripping throughout. I thought that focusing on a totally different group of characters was a very original and refreshing idea. Their story was fascinating and the whole thing felt almost like a first episode all over again. Wade, with his no-nonsense attitude and inappropriate jokes, was particularly amusing and entertaining. Caleb also looks to be an interesting character as he attempts to navigate this world while taking care of his wife and child. Ajax looks set to be a menacing antagonist. Hopefully the group won’t take their eyes off Rhea for too long, given that she seems compromised by her relation to Ajax.
The entrance of the usual characters at the end was very nicely executed. I like that we followed the group of strangers up until they ran into the usual characters, rather than the other way around as it usually is. I noticed that there was mention of Iowa too. Is this the first time there’s been any hint at where the series is actually set?

Thanks so much, Rob! I’m really pleased you enjoyed the episode.
And yes, I think this might be one of the first mentions about a real location. I always imagined the series was set around the US/Canadian border.
